For the first time in thirty years, Mete returns to his musical roots. The music on Tilburg Noord is an ode to the power of imagination and artistic freedom, inspired by Erker’s musical heroes such as Carla Bley, Ornette Coleman, and Charles Mingus. Apparently simple material with big, beautiful melodies, performed with energy and fantasy—that is what the musical style from Tilburg represents. Pieces like Frisk Baglaens (Marilyn Mazur), Ghosts (Albert Ayler), and Ja (Mete Erker) are examples of compositions that, through their beautiful simplicity, place musical emphasis on timbre, texture, and artistic expression in the form of momentary improvisation. Additionally, the inclusion of band members roughly twenty years younger creates an interesting dialogue between two generations.
